Hi There, New user here so might've missed something basic sorry. I never use the tempo track (it's closed) but sometimes BPM adjustments (bottom right) create tempo changes instead of changing tempo for the whole track. How do you completely disable the tempo track? I can't see how in the manual sorry. Cheers - NEW TO S1, MIGRATED FROM LOGIC - STUDIO ONE PRO 5.0.0.59360 - FOCUSRITE CLARETT 8 Pre - OSX 10.14.6, MAC PRO 6,1, 64GB RAM, PCI SSD
The tempo track and the bpm setting at the bottom of the screen are inseparable. The bpm setting shows you the tempo between tempo track markers and allows you to change it. A new song has a tempo track without any markers, which makes the bpm setting change the tempo for the entire song. Tempo track/bpm changes affect: - the time between grid lines - the tempo of the metronome - the playing speed of any tracks set to ‘time stretch’ (for events with tempo data) - the start position (in time) of events on tracks set to ‘follow’ or 'time stretch'. You can’t disable the tempo track itself as it controls the grid lines and the metronome, but you can set tracks to ignore the tempo settings of Studio One. Simply open the track inspector and set the track(s) to ‘don’t follow’.
Thanks for the reply but I’m not sure I understand sorry. Is there no way to stop Studio One creating tempo markers when you change the BPM? I keep the tempo track closed, thar’s a lot of double handling just to tweak the tempo - right? - NEW TO S1, MIGRATED FROM LOGIC - STUDIO ONE PRO 5.0.0.59360 - FOCUSRITE CLARETT 8 Pre - OSX 10.14.6, MAC PRO 6,1, 64GB RAM, PCI SSD
How are you changing the BPM? Is 'bottom right' the tempo display in the transport control pane? I can open the tempo track, move the edit cursor around and make changes there, even during playback, with no new tempo points being created in the tempo track. The initial point's value changes, but no new points are created. So, simple as it sounds, please provide a step-by-step - ------------------------------------------------------------- Studio One Pro - latest Win10Pro x64 (latest) i7-6700 @3.8Ghz / 32G / 43' 4K UMC1820 / Event PS8 / FaderPort Classic / KKS61MK2 Maschine MK3 / Waves Gold / Nomad IS3 / IKM Max / K12CE
ben67 wroteThanks for the reply but I’m not sure I understand sorry. I suggest you open the tempo track so you can see what's happening there when you make tempo changes. S1 does not insert tempo markers 'by itself'. So as long as you don't insert any yourself and don't start a song with an event with embedded tempo markers then the tempo track should stay empty when you tweak the tempo from the 'tempo display in the transport control pane' (thanks Bob). Secondly, have you checked per track in your song what the 'Tempo' field at the top of the track inspector says? (follow/don't follow/timestretch). And for tracks set to 'time stretch' have you checked if the events in those tracks have something in the 'File Tempo' field? All these settings affect how your song will respond to your tempo tweaks. Experiment a little and let us know how that goes
The OP may be trying to do something that is supported by some other DAWs. In my previous DAW, I could disable the tempo track, in which case it would follow the tempo value in the transport bar. One reason that I used to do it is to slow down the tempo to record a keyboard part that was beyond my technical abilities (as a guitar/bass guy, that's most of them). Currently with S1 there is no way of temporarily working at a different tempo once there's a tempo change on the tempo track. The recent improvements are fantastic, but I'd still like to see some additional enhancements (disable, tempo track scaling, etc.)
Thanks guys, 1. The tempo track is closed and I'm changing BPM bottom right. 2. All tracks are set to Timestretch. 4. Regions have 118 in the file tempo field which was the original BPM when recorded. Questions: 1. Are you guys saying that changing the tempo doesn't create markers for you? 2. Or are you saying that's how BPM in Studio One works? In which case, why would you want tempo changes to create markers if you're working to click and have the Tempo track closed? Does any of this make sense or am I an alien! - NEW TO S1, MIGRATED FROM LOGIC - STUDIO ONE PRO 5.0.0.59360 - FOCUSRITE CLARETT 8 Pre - OSX 10.14.6, MAC PRO 6,1, 64GB RAM, PCI SSD
Q 1. Tempo track opened or closed makes no difference to anything other than opened it allows you to see what’s happening. So open the tempo track. 2. That will make events with tempo data adjust to to S1’s tempo settings. 3. What happened to 3? 4. Which is a requirement for events to adjust to S1’s tempo settings. A 1. Yes, see information given earlier in this thread. 2. Forget everything you know about this subject and read the information given earlier in this thread. Then read it again. Nano Nano

I just alt drag copied an arranger section but it didn't create any markers. I undid that and added a spike in the tempo track in one of the measures and did the drag copy again. It duplicated the tempo changes without any problem. So not sure what's going on with your song. It does this regularly? Try a new song and do some tests? Forum Moderator. It is getting old open the tempo view every 5 minutes deleting auto-created markers. You may still have a tempo marker maybe way past the end of your song creating an ever so slight tempo slope. Try this: click once in the tempo track, then ctrl/cmd-A, then delete/backspace to make sure every tempo marker is deleted. Then click once in the tempo box at the bottom and enter 140 [Enter] from the keyboard. Does that solve the problem?
